Changing a baby’s dirty diapers can be challenging
away from home. Twenty years ago, before the baby
changing table became popular or even required,
changing baby’s diaper in public was implausible.
Families with infants planned each excursion carefully
before venturing from their homes, sometimes leaving
one adult and the infant home while the other
parent ran errands.[2] Today, modern parents carry
diaper bags which can include a diaper changing
pad – a vinyl pad that, when placed on a
hard surface, facilitates the diaper changing
process. Using the pad often involves placing
it on the dirty ground, on a park bench, or on
a dirty surface in a public restroom. The pad
creates a barrier to the filth beneath it. In
the long run, the pad itself may not be sanitary
as it comes in direct contact with dirty surfaces
and then is stored in the baby bag along with
baby’s other items.
In addition, changing stations have been made
available in public places such as restaurant
restrooms. That does not guarantee, though, that
the public changing station will be hygienic since
some people abuse the privilege or if the restroom
is not well maintained. The drawback, however,
is the requirement of a trip to the restroom,
which may not be easily accessible as well as
the occasional “unsanitary conditions associated
with the changing station.”[3] In some cases,
the restroom may not even be furnished with a
changing table especially in the case of the men’s
room. Some inventors have created the portable
changing table, however, these are often awkward
contraptions that require complex assembly. Moreover,
they take up valuable space and weight in a parent’s
bag. A changing table which is sanitary, readily
available, and easily assembled would fill the
apparent gap in today’s market.
Our product, the BabyDeck™ Stroller Changing
Table incorporates the diaper changing table into
the design of a standard baby stroller. Our unique
changing table device easily adapts to various
strollers on the market without changing their
standard operating features. Unlike other portable
changing tables, the user need not carry a changing
pad to place over the ground or on a bench. The
stroller itself is the changing table. It’s
hygienic and easy to use. After the diaper has
been changed, the waterproof material can be easily
cleaned with antibacterial wipes. Folded up, the
changing table is hidden from view and fits neatly
into the seat compartment. The integration of
the stroller and the changing table relieves busy
parents from searching for a restroom with a clean
changing table.
